Artist Statement
Born and raised in Michigan and attending private schools I wasn’t offered art classes growing up. It wasn’t until moving to California in my 50’s that the desire to paint found me. Mostly self taught I was lucky to have found a few really good mentors. I have worked in a number of different mediums and have found that desire, commitment and consistency can make anyone a painter.
In the time that I have been painting I have found art to be my teacher. It reflects back to me what I need to see and helps me get in touch with who I am and how I can grow as a person. Because of it I appreciate beauty more fully, see color more vividly and have the opportunity to become one with my subject. It is like a meditation as it quiets my mind and helps me focus on what is in front of me. I use art as a tool of self-discovery, as a way of learning and a way to touch something deeper inside of myself. I have a strong desire to share the beauty that I see in nature, in a simple flower or the spirit of an animal.
I am grateful for my art mentors who have helped me to develop my skills and for the chance to share my work with you.
I hope my art brings you a little of the joy it has brought me.
